Illustration: A customer holds out a sheet of paper with IRF540 and SiHF540S written on it and asks, “The names are completely different — these are from different companies, right?” A female staff member in a red apron holds up a datasheet with VISHAY at the top and IRF540SPbF and SiHF540S-GE3 below it, and answers, “Both are Vishay. The two names are on the same ordering table!”
Vishay is an American electronic components company, and it publishes its MOSFET datasheets under the name Vishay Siliconix. Of the IRF part numbers commonly traded in Guro, such as IRF540 · IRF740 · IRF840 · IRFP460, a good number are Vishay products. On top of that, Vishay has its own part numbers — SiHP33N60E (high voltage) · Si2308CDS (low voltage) · SQ (automotive) — so parts from the same company come in three or four different name styles.
Using official Vishay documents, this post sorts out the suffixes (PbF · GE3 · BE3 …), the two names for the same chip, and the package letters. The 4-digit numbers and the newer Infineon part numbers covered in the Infineon (IR) part number guide (post 245) are not repeated here.
We could not find an official document that says “this letter means this,” like the ones IR and Infineon have. So this post separates ① what is written in datasheet ordering tables and marking documents from ② trends read from a list of 1,650 Vishay MOSFETs. Items in ② are marked [Trend] — they are mostly right but are not official rules, so check the datasheet before ordering.
Values are taken from the Vishay MOSFET list (vishay.com/en/mosfets, 2026-10-30) and Vishay datasheets · ordering information · marking documents. Text inside English quotation marks is the original wording. Click a part number to go to eGuro Part Search.
The header of the Vishay IRF540 datasheet (document 91021) reads IRF540 · Vishay Siliconix. The Vishay MOSFET list has 266 names starting with IR, and all of them are old numbers such as IRF5xx · IRF6xx · IRF7xx · IRF8xx · IRF9xxx · IRFZxx · IRFPxxx · IRFR/Uxxx. Voltages range from 50 to 1000V, and the packages are TO-220AB · D2PAK · TO-220 FULLPAK · TO-247 · DPAK · IPAK.
| Name pattern | Which company | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Old number, no N at the end | Vishay | IRF540 · IRFZ44 · IRF9540 · IRF740 · IRFP460 |
| Old number + trailing N | Infineon | IRF540N · IRFZ44N · IRF9540N · IRLZ44N |
| 4-digit number | Infineon | IRF3205 · IRF4905 · IRF1404 (not on the Vishay list) |
| N in the middle (current N voltage) | On the Vishay list | IRFB9N60A · IRFP22N50A |
Exception: IRFP22N50A is on the Vishay list and also on the Infineon website (marked discontinued). The ‘trailing N’ is only a hint — always check the manufacturer column of the quote or stock list as well. Parts with the N are covered in the Infineon post (post 245).
Vishay takes orders for the same chip under two names: IR name + PbF and SiH name + -GE3. The ordering table in the IRF540S (D2PAK) datasheet (document 91022) shows this directly.
| Ordering table row | Order part number (D2PAK) |
|---|---|
| “Lead (Pb)-free and halogen-free” | SiHF540S-GE3 · SiHF540STRL-GE3 · SiHF540STRR-GE3 |
| “Lead (Pb)-free” | IRF540SPbF · IRF540STRLPbF · IRF540STRRPbF |
The IRFR024 (DPAK) datasheet (document 91264) is the same — the halogen-free row lists SiHFR024-GE3 · SiHFR024TR-GE3 · SiHFU024-GE3, and the lead (Pb)-free row lists IRFR024PbF · IRFR024TRPbF · IRFU024PbF. So even if a quote shows SiHF540S, it is a part from the same datasheet as IRF540S.
Not every part number has a SiH name. The ordering table for the basic TO-220 IRF540 (document 91021) has two rows: “Lead (Pb)-free” = IRF540PbF and “Lead (Pb)-free and halogen-free” = IRF540PbF-BE3, while IRFP460 (document 91237) has only one row, IRFP460PbF.
| Suffix | Meaning | Source · examples |
|---|---|---|
| PbF | Lead (Pb)-free | Ordering table “Lead (Pb)-free” — IRF540PbF |
| -GE3 | Lead (Pb)-free + halogen-free | Ordering table “Lead (Pb)-free and halogen-free” — SiHF540S-GE3 · Si2308CDS-T1-GE3 |
| -E3 | Lead (Pb)-free | Si2333CDS ordering table: “Lead (Pb)-free” Si2333CDS-T1-E3 / halogen-free version Si2333CDS-T1-GE3 |
| -BE3 | Alternate production site version | IRFR024 datasheet · SQ ordering document “alternate manufacturing location” — IRFR024TRPbF-BE3 |
| S · L (at the end) | D2PAK · I2PAK | IRF540S (D2PAK) · IRF840L (I2PAK) |
| R · U (after IRF) | DPAK · IPAK | IRFR024 (DPAK) · IRFU024 (IPAK) |
| TR · TRL · TRR | Tape and reel | IRF540STRLPbF · IRF540STRRPbF — note “See device orientation” |
| -T1 | Tape and reel (low-voltage · automotive) | Si2308CDS-T1-GE3 · SQ2309ES-T1_GE3 |
TRL and TRR are both tape and reel, and the datasheet describes the difference only as “See device orientation” (see the direction of the parts in the reel). No document spells out which way L and R mean, so when feeding a pick-and-place machine, order with the same letter you used before.
Some part numbers carry A · LC · H, such as IRF740A · IRF740LC · IRF840HPBF. A and LC are different versions with their own datasheets (IRF740A = document 91051, IRF740LC = 91053), and there is no official document explaining the letters. Treat them as different parts and compare the datasheets. There are also suffixes other than GE3, such as SiR626DP-T1-RE3, which appear in the “Lead (Pb)-free and halogen-free” row of the ordering table.
Values from the Vishay MOSFET list (2026-10-30). Current is at case 25℃, and on-resistance is at gate 10V. ‘doc?number’ is the datasheet document number (section 9).

* The basic IRF840 is missing from the list (IRF840A · IRF840S · IRF840L etc. are there), so values from datasheet 91070 are shown. The Vishay site has no in-production / discontinued column, so this table cannot tell you whether a part is discontinued. The IRFR024 document also covers IRFU024 (IPAK) · SiHFR024 · SiHFU024.
Most of the same families also come in S (D2PAK) · L (I2PAK) versions — IRF540S · IRF640S · IRF840S/L · IRF9540S and so on. IRF530 · IRF540 are 100V, IRF630 · IRF640 are 200V, IRF730 · IRF740 are 400V, and IRF830 · IRF840 are 500V: when the middle digit is the same, the voltage group is the same (IR's old 3-digit rule — FET post 56).
Vishay's current high-voltage MOSFETs start with SiH rather than an IR name. In the list, 359 part numbers like SiHP33N60E · SiHB053N60E have 2–3 digits before the N, and all of them are 500–800V. (Some, like SiHU7N60E, have only 1 digit.)
Voltage: the two digits after N ×10 matched the listed voltage for 359 out of 359. 2-digit numbers roughly (±15%) matched the current for 164 out of 192, and 3-digit numbers roughly (±10%) matched the on-resistance (mΩ) for 163 out of 167.
Exceptions: SiHA17N80AEF says 17 but the listed current is 6.5A (Thin-Lead FULLPAK), SiHB11N80AE says 11 but is 8A, and SiHK031N60AE says 031 but the on-resistance is 0.0423Ω. Use the numbers only as a rough hint.
Package letter [Trend] — in the list, the second letter of new SiH part numbers paired with the package as shown below (no exceptions found).
| Letter | Package (as listed) | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| A | Thin-Lead TO-220 FULLPAK | SiHA15N60E |
| B | D2PAK (TO-263) | SiHB053N60E |
| D | DPAK (TO-252) | SiHD14N60E |
| F | TO-220 FULLPAK | SiHF15N65E |
| G | TO-247AC | SiHG050N60E |
| H | PowerPAK 8×8 | SiHH21N65E |
| J | PowerPAK SO-8L | SiHJ10N60E |
| K | PowerPAK 10×12 | SiHK185N60E |
| L | TO-247AD 4L (4 leads) | SiHL040N65E |
| M | PowerPAK 8×8L | SiHM080N60E |
| P | TO-220AB | SiHP33N60E |
| R | PowerPAK 8×8LR | SiHR080N60E |
| U | IPAK (TO-251) | SiHU7N60E |
| W | TO-247AD | SiHW30N60E |
In SiHF540S, which comes from an old IR name, the F is the F of IRF540S and the package is D2PAK. In the new SiHF15N65E, the F is TO-220 FULLPAK from the table above (datasheet 91531: 650V · 15A · TO-220 FULLPAK). If SiH is followed by a number-N-number pattern (15N65), it is a new name; if it is followed by an IR number pattern (F540 · FR024), it is an old name.
The trailing E · EF · AE · S · SF are series names (the SiHF15N65E datasheet title is “E Series Power MOSFET”). No document explains each letter, so if the suffix differs, treat it as a different part and compare the datasheets.
Small MOSFETs used in phones, laptops, and power boards start with Si. The list has more than 500 Si · SiR · SiS · SiA · SiJ part numbers, mostly 8–250V.
Last two letters and package [Trend] — we counted the last two letters and packages of the Si · SiR · SiS · SiA · SiJ part numbers in the list.
| Last two letters | Package (as listed) | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| DS | SOT-23 (all 37) | Si2308CDS · Si2333CDS |
| DV | TSOP-6 (all 38) | Si3xxx family |
| DY | SO-8 (all 64) | Si4435DDY |
| DP | PowerPAK SO-8 family (SiJ…DP is SO-8L) | SiR626DP |
| DN | PowerPAK 1212-8 family | SiS990DN |
| DJ | PowerPAK SC-70 | SiA441DJ |
| DT | PowerPAIR (mostly 2 chips) | SiZ family |
DP is PowerPAK SO-8 for SiR…DP but PowerPAK SO-8L for SiJ…DP, so the same suffix can mean a different package name depending on the prefix. The prefixes SiR (PowerPAK SO-8) · SiS (PowerPAK 1212-8) · SiA (PowerPAK SC-70) · SiZ (PowerPAIR) also mostly pair with packages in the list, but again there is no official explanation.
Order part numbers are written exactly as in the datasheet ordering table: Si4435DDY → “Lead (Pb)-free” Si4435DDY-T1-E3 / “Lead (Pb)-free and halogen-free” Si4435DDY-T1-GE3. SiA441DJ has a single row, SiA441DJ-T1-GE3, and SiR626DP a single row, SiR626DP-T1-RE3.
Vishay automotive MOSFETs start with SQ. The Vishay document ‘SQ Automotive MOSFET Ordering Information’ (document 79771, 2020-11) defines the order part number as follows.
| Package | Datasheet part number (example) | Order part number |
|---|---|---|
| PowerPAK 1212 | SQS401EN | SQS401EN-T1_GE3 · -T1_BE3 |
| PowerPAK SO-8L | SQJ488EP | SQJ488EP-T1_GE3 · -T1_BE3 |
| SOT-23 | SQ2309ES | SQ2309ES-T1_GE3 · -T1_BE3 |
| TSOP-6 | SQ3427EV | SQ3427EV-T1_GE3 · -T1_BE3 |
| SO-8 | SQ4182EY | SQ4182EY-T1_GE3 · -T1_BE3 |
The document says the order part number is the “Datasheet part number” followed by -T1_GE3 or -T1_BE3, and explains that _BE3 “denotes alternate manufacturing location” (a different production site). Low-voltage Si part numbers use ‘-T1-GE3’ (hyphen) while SQ uses ‘-T1_GE3’ (underscore), so copy order part numbers exactly, symbols included. Other tape orientations such as T2 · T4 are “non-standard orientations in tape”, and the document says to contact a sales representative for them.
SQ part numbers are not in the Vishay MOSFET list (1,650 parts) we downloaded this time, so their suffix and package trends were not counted separately.
The year is a single digit, so 2016 and 2026 are both 6. The example markings in the document are IRF740AL, B065N60E, and P065N60E — the list has the part numbers SiHB065N60E (D2PAK) · SiHP065N60E (TO-220), so the example drawings show them without SiH. The document does not say whether every part number is shortened this way, so just keep in mind that the chip marking may differ slightly from the order part number.
Small SMD parts carry a short code instead of the part number. The first page of the datasheet gives the “Marking code” — Si2308CDS = G3, Si2333CDS = O3. The SC-70 marking document (72870) says “A = Part Number Code” · W = week · L = lot, and for the code it says “See data sheet for code”. So if a chip shows only G3, you have to look up the part number backwards from the Marking code in the datasheet.
| What you need | URL (change only the document number) |

| Datasheet PDF | https://www.vishay.com/doc?91021 |
| Product page | https://www.vishay.com/en/product/91021/ |

The Document Number at the top right of a Vishay datasheet is the number at the end of the URL. Examples: IRF540 = 91021, IRF740 = 91054, IRFP460 = 91237, Si2308CDS = 77744. The datasheet also gives the drawing address, as in “For related documents such as package/tape drawings, part marking, and reliability data, see www.vishay.com/ppg?77744”. Just append the ‘doc?number’ from the table in section 4 to the end of the URL.
Illustration: A customer in a work jumper holds two component bags labeled IRF540 and IRF540N and asks, “They differ by just one N, so they’re the same, right?” A female staff member in a red apron points to the N at the end of the IRF540N label (red circle) and answers, “Without the N it’s Vishay, with the N it’s Infineon. The specs are different too!”
