YAGEO is a company that makes many chip resistors and MLCCs, and in Guro we often see part numbers like RC0603FR-0710KL and CC0603KRX7R9BB104. A YAGEO part number is a GLOBAL PART NUMBER in which each field has a fixed meaning, so reading it field by field tells you the size, tolerance, packing, reel and value. This post decodes chip resistor and MLCC part numbers following the ORDERING INFORMATION tables in YAGEO datasheets.
All values were checked against official YAGEO datasheets (RC_L · AC · RL chip resistors; CC X7R · NP0 · X5R MLCCs) and per-part spec sheets; text in English quotation marks is the original wording. Number markings on resistor bodies (103 · 01C, etc.) are covered in the SMD resistor code post (57), and capacitance codes and the meaning of X7R in the MLCC posts (48 · 116).
The datasheet describes this order as “Global part numbers are identified by the series, size, tolerance, packing type, temperature coefficient, taping reel and resistance value.” The final L: “Letter L is the system default code for ordering only.” — it is not a meaningful field but a letter added for ordering. YAGEO spec sheets also list RC0603FR0710KL, without the hyphen, as the same part number (Aliases).
| Field | Letter | Meaning (RC_L datasheet) |
|---|---|---|
| Size | 0075 · 0100 · 0201 · 0402 · 0603 · 0805 · 1206 · 1210 · 1218 · 2010 · 2512 | Size in inches (0603 = 1.6×0.8mm) |
| Tolerance | B · D · F · J | ±0.1% · ±0.5% · ±1.0% · ±5.0% (J for 0Ω jumpers) |
| Packing | R · K · S | Paper tape reel · embossed tape reel · ESD reel (0075 · 0100 only) |
| Temperature coefficient | - | “Based on spec.” — spec value by size and tolerance |
Illustration: A customer holds two reels labeled RC0603FR-0710KL and RC0603FR-7W10KL and asks, “They're both 10K, so they're the same, right?” A female staff member points to the letters 07 and 7W and answers, “7W has double the power!”
| Letter | Meaning (original text) | Qty per reel (0603) |
|---|---|---|
| 07 | 7-inch reel · standard power (“7 inch dia. Reel & Standard power”) | 5,000 pcs (paper) |
| 10 | 10-inch reel | 10,000 pcs |
| 13 | 13-inch reel | 20,000 pcs |
| 7W | 7-inch reel · 2× power (“2 x standard power”) | |
| 3W | 13-inch reel · 2× power | |
| 7D | 7-inch reel · 2× quantity (“2 x Standard Quantity”, 0201 · 0402 only) | Not available for 0603 |
| 7N | 7-inch ESD reel (0075 · 0100 only) | Not available for 0603 |
This field sets not only the reel size but also the power. The rated power list in the RC_L datasheet gives two values for 0603, 1/10W and 1/5W (0402 · 0805 · 1206 · 2512 also have two values); 07 is standard power, while 7W · 3W are “2 x standard power”. So RC0603FR-0710KL and RC0603FR-7W10KL are different parts even though both are 10kΩ · ±1%. 10 · 13 use the same chip and differ only in reel size and quantity.
According to the YAGEO spec sheet, RC0603FR-0710KL is 0.1W (1/10W). The datasheet has no statement giving the exact wattage of 7W parts, so check that part's spec sheet before actually ordering.
| Format | Range | Example (datasheet original) |
|---|---|---|
| 0RXXX | 1 – 976mΩ (RL only) | 0R1 = 0.1Ω, 0R12 = 0.12Ω, 0R105 = 0.105Ω |
| XRXX | 1 ~ 9.76Ω | 1R = 1Ω, 1R5 = 1.5Ω, 9R76 = 9.76Ω |
| XXRX | 10 ~ 97.6Ω | 10R = 10Ω, 97R6 = 97.6Ω |
| XXXR | 100 ~ 976Ω | 100R = 100Ω, 976R = 976Ω |
| XKXX | 1 ~ 9.76kΩ | 1K = 1,000Ω, 9K76 = 9,760Ω |
| XMXX | 1 ~ 9.76MΩ | 1M = 1,000,000Ω |
| XXMX | 10MΩ | 10M = 10,000,000Ω |
The letters R · K · M mark the decimal point (“Letter R/K/M is decimal point”). So 10kΩ is 10K, 4.7kΩ is 4K7, and 1.5Ω is 1R5. The AC datasheet adds “no need to mention the last zero after R/K/M, e.g.1K2, not 1K20.” — the trailing 0 is not written. This field uses a different system from the numbers printed on the body (103 · 01C), so don't mix them up (body markings: post 57).
| RC (general) | AC (automotive) | RL (current sensing · low resistance) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Format | RC0603FR-0710KL | AC0402FR-07100KL | RL0603FR-070R56L |
| Features | General chip resistor | “AEC-Q200 qualified” | “Low resistances applied to current sensing” |
| Temperature coefficient field | - only | - or E = ±50ppm/℃ | - only |
| Tolerance | B · D · F · J | B · D · F · J | F · G (±2%) · J |
| Jumper (0Ω) | Tolerance field J | Tolerance field J | Tolerance field - |
| Reel field | 07 · 10 · 13 · 7W · 7D · 7N · 3W | 07 · 13 · 7W · 3W | 07 · 10 · 13 · 7W(0805 · 1206) |
All three series have the same field order; only the first two letters differ. For automotive and industrial use, choose AC, which states AEC-Q200. The revision history of the 2023 RL datasheet V.3 says “Remove AEC-Q200 qualified”, so the current RL datasheet carries no AEC-Q200 mark. The RL datasheet also says the old Phycomp 12NC numeric part numbers can be used — e.g. “235051212567L or RL0603FR-070R56L”.
The datasheet explains MLCC part numbers as “All part numbers are identified by the series, size, tolerance, TC material, packing style, voltage, process code, termination and capacitance value.” Unlike other companies, the tolerance and packing letters come early and the capacitance comes last. BB is a fixed code for process code and termination; the datasheet does not give a separate meaning for each letter.
| Voltage field | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 0 | A | Y |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rated voltage | 4V (X5R only) | 6.3V | 10V | 16V | 25V | 50V | 100V | 200V | 250V |
| Packing letter | Meaning (original text) |
|---|---|
| R | Paper/PE tape · 7-inch reel (“Paper/PE taping reel; Reel 7 inch”) |
| K | Blister (embossed) tape · 7-inch reel |
| P | Paper/PE tape · 13-inch reel |
| F | Blister tape · 13-inch reel |
| C | Bulk case (NP0 · X5R datasheets) |
The digit in the voltage field is a code, not a voltage. Also, NP0 (C0G) part numbers are written with the letters NPO (letter O, not the digit 0) within the field, and the fixed letters are BN instead of BB (e.g. of the form CC0603JRNPO9BN…). Thick chips have no paper tape, only blister (K · F), so the packing letter also depends on the size.
These three part numbers have the same specs: 0603 (1608) · X7R · 50V · 0.1µF · ±10%. Field order and letters differ by company.
| Company | Part number | Size | Temperature characteristic | Voltage | Capacitance | Tolerance | Packing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| YAGEO | CC0603KRX7R9BB104 | 0603 | X7R | 9 | 104 | K | R (early) |
| Murata | GRM188R71H104KA93D | 18 | R7 | 1H | 104 | K | D (at the end) |
| TDK | C1608X7R1H104K080AA | 1608 | X7R | 1H | 104 | K | A (second from the end) |
The capacitance 104 and tolerance K are the same at all three companies. Size is in inches at YAGEO (0603), metric at TDK (1608), and a 2-digit code at Murata (18); 50V is 9 at YAGEO and 1H at Murata · TDK. Murata and TDK are explained in How to Read MLCC Part Numbers, part 2 (post 116).
