The most common general-purpose amplifier, with two op amps in one package. It runs from a single supply and its input range extends down to GND, so it is widely used to amplify sensor signals.
Actual size
↓ Actual size, left edge aligned to 0 on the ruler
One ruler tick = 1mm. On PC this is actual size on a 24-inch FHD monitor at 100% zoom; on iPhone it adjusts automatically. For other screens, use “Calibrate ruler” below.
Enlarged (SOIC-8 · top view · approx. 15×)
Pins 1 OUT1 (output 1) · 2 IN1− (inverting input 1) · 3 IN1+ (non-inverting input 1) · 4 V− (GND) · 5 IN2+ (non-inverting input 2) · 6 IN2− (inverting input 2) · 7 OUT2 (output 2) · 8 V+ (supply)
Package SOIC-8
| Type | Dual general-purpose op amp |
| Package | SOIC-8 (D, 4.9 × 6mm), also PDIP, TSSOP, VSSOP, etc. |
| Supply voltage VS | 3 ~ 30V (LM358B/BA: 3 ~ 36V) |
| Input range | Includes GND (V−) |
| Input offset voltage | typ. 3mV, max 7mV (LM358A max 3mV) |
| Gain bandwidth GBW | 0.7MHz |
| Slew rate SR | 0.3V/µs |
| Supply current | typ. 350µA per amplifier (max 600µA, VS 5V) |
| Operating temperature (LM358) | 0 ~ 70℃ |
Values are from the Texas Instruments datasheet.
LM358 and LM358B have similar part numbers but differ in maximum supply voltage and bandwidth. When substituting, check the suffix too (A, B, BA). The output does not swing all the way to V+ (not rail-to-rail).
